Trendy Curly Wedge Hair Styles
The Wedge is back. Along with a fondness for all things retro and vintage, trendy curly wedge hairstyles are coming back. There are actually several variations, all referred to as wedge hairstyles, that can be used by women with curly hair. Wedge hairstyles exist from the 1950s, 1970s, and 1980s, with the most famous being worn by Dorothy Hamill. The wedge is one of fall 2007's short haircuts for curly hair. Other retro styles that are popular include 1940's pincurl hairstyles and feathered long bangs.

The Dorothy Hamill Wedge Hairstyle
Originally worn by the Olympic skater at her performance in 1974, this hairstyle started a fad. For a number of years, it was referred to as a "Dorothy Hamill". At its most basic, this style is a bob that's fuller at the bottom than the top, forming a triangular shape. This style also usually looks quite sculpted. This is generally done with a razor. Modernly, this style is called a wedge haircut or a stacked cut. It may also be called an inverted bob. Asymmetrical versions of this hairstyle are popular if you'd like to look edgy or trendy. Symmetrical, chin-length variations on the wedge cut are often associated with business women or suburban moms, but that doesn't mean you have to be one to wear it.

Cutting the Wedge for Curly Hair
If you're thinking about getting one of these trendy curly wedge hairstyles yourself, there are a few things you should pay attention to. The original wedge was for straight hair. This means that curly haired people may have a harder time getting the sleek lines that are associated with it. However, with the right stylist, you can still have this sculpted look. Layering is vital.

Talk to your stylist about the feasibility of getting this cut. Find out if he or she has a lot of experience cutting curly hair, and whether it's cut wet or dry. For people with loose curls, a wet cut may suffice, but for those with tight ones, dry cutting one curl at a time is preferable. Either way, you should allow your stylist to identify the way your curls work. Don't wash your hair right before you go to the salon. Instead, wear it the way you usually do, with no special treatment. That way, your stylist will be able to tell how your individual curls are set up on your head, and won't try to force them to behave differently.

In order to maintain the perfect shape, you'll have to get your curly wedge touched up frequently. Otherwise, your curls will quickly grow to suit themselves, and no amount of styling product will maintain your style. Fortunately, touching up this style is a quick and easy process. If you're interested in fall 2007's short hair cuts for curly hair, the wedge might be a great choice.
